Create a sparkling clean and welcoming space with these DIY disinfecting wipes, with an inviting scent and safe for the entire family!
Happy sunday friends ! I am writing this post while sipping on my green tea, cozy in my sweater, and listening to the rainfall outside. There’s a calmness in our home as our baby naps and our daughter is playing quietly with her dolls. We are on our second week of quarantine and everything still feels so strange. But, I’m always grateful for a slow Sunday, which gave me the opportunity to make some of the items our house needed, and also a few new ones I have been wanting to try.
Disinfectant wipes have been on my list for a long time! In all honesty – I have had a diy disinfectant wipe with reusable washcloths on my brain for over a year. We received very thin cloths for our son when he was born, and for some reason, I couldn’t stop thinking that they would be perfect in a wipe holder and used for cleaning. I will still create that one at some point, but a “clorox” wipe recipe using paper towel roll has been circulating around, and I wanted to see if I could make it work using natural and non-toxic ingredients that I have in my home. We are a pretty green family, and I am allergic to bleach, so I am always looking for alternatives.
Here is a breakdown of the ingredients I used to create these wipes!
Isopropyl alcohol
Rubbing alcohol is capable of sterilizing and disinfecting surfaces in your home. It is one of the cheapest options for safe cleaners. I enjoy cleaning with it because it will evaporate without leaving any residue behind. Unlike vinegar, it’s also not acidic so it can be used on most surfaces. I use it all around my kitchen, especially on handles, appliances, and stainless steel. The alcohol gives it a nice shine without streaks or residue!
Thieves
Thieves Household Cleaner is a concentrated, versatile solution that gives you a deep clean without harsh chemicals. Thieves will become your favorite cleaner, without a doubt. It’s scent is quite literally addicting (and 100% all natural!) and can be described as both spicy-sweet. Thieves is plant-based, and safe to use around everyone in your family, including pets. This means your kids can use this cleaner without any worries. Unlike bleach, this is perfectly fine for them to touch and use. Thieves blend is a powerful combination of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils that fills any space with a rich, spicy aroma. Essential oils
So many oils have antimicrobial benefits and provide a clean scent. I have been diffusing lemongrass for a week straight, and it smells so fresh. But, I wanted to add a familiar nostalgic combination to these wipes and went for lemon and peppermint! Lemon has a bright and joyful aroma, and peppermint provides a cool uplifting scent! They both help make our space feel l sparkly clean. I always use my young living essential oils because they are 100% pure plant oils and therapeutic grade, and the best I have tried in this whole wide world.
I love that you can make these so easily without buying the big plastic containers disinfecting wipes come in! Although these aren’t washable, they are still better for the environment, since you are using natural ingredients, biodegradable paper, and they are stored in a reusable jar. I imagine this roll of paper towels will last me one month for regular wipe downs. I am currently using this same recipe in a spray bottle downstairs, and keeping these wipes upstairs for our frequent bathroom and changing table wipe downs.
I hope you’re able to get some rest on this slow Sunday and complete a diy or two. š
Stay well friends!

Your photography is just stunning, Sarah! We are also a low tox family (at least have been until this pandemic) and I always love a great DIY recipe. Now if I could only find some rubbing alcohol anywhere! Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you so much Katerina! I agree that this pandemic has changed many of our routines. I look forward to when we’re able to find everything we need regularly again. Wishing you and your family the best and health and wellness in this crazy time!
