As we enter into fall, I really look forward to the beautiful aromas and hints of cozy whims laced into our lives. A sprinkle of cinnamon, the scent of apple in the oven, cool morning air and a hot cup of tea to accompany. All of these things provide relaxation and create a positive emotional state by creating a calming atmosphere.
I created a list of my Fall wellness essentials, that provides not just a beautiful sense of serenity in my environment, but reduce our environmental impact and reduce the toxic load in our homes.
First on my list,
1) A diffuser and Fall scent essential oils.
After eliminating all artificial fragrance from our home in the last year, I can honestly say I can not stand the smell of store-bought candles anymore. After I detoxed I bought a $100 candle from anthropology on a whim (for a mere $100 – sorry Patrick!) that I had to give away, because the scent gave me headaches. Diffusing and using therapeutic grade essential oils for our favorite cozy fall scents was one of the best things we could do for our health and the air quality of our home. Here is a list of Fall essential oils that are a must on our list. And head to this post for some of our favorite diffuser blends. And if you need this diffuser you can get it from me here.
2) Pumpkin spiced thieves household cleaner
Thieves Household Cleaner is a concentrated, versatile solution that gives you a deep clean when scrubbing, degreasing, spot cleaning, dusting, and more all without harsh chemicals. With its spicy-sweet aroma and plant-based formula, it’s great to use around everyone in your family, including pets. Create a clean, welcoming space that’s perfect for everyone with the fresh, inviting scent. If you’re already using thieves, you already know that it’s dreamy scent is already Fall-like on it’s own with it’s notes of cinnamon and clove. By adding these oils to your thieves cleaner, you will end up with the most incredible pumpkin spice thieves cleaning spray! I am gifting all of our new young living members a bottle of thieves this season, so you can try it for your self. Become a member here.
Pumpkin spice thieves cleaner essentials:
3 drops of clove. 3 drops of cinnamon. 2 drops of nutmeg. 2 drops of orange. 1 drop of ginger. You’re welcome!
Organic loose leaf tea, a special mug, and a beautiful tea pot.
Each day needs a tea ritual! Switching from individually wrapped tea bags to loose leaf tea packaged in eco-friendly biodegradable or compostable packaging is a beautiful ritual to begin. Did you know that some tea bags release microplastics into your drink? A plastic tea bag can release 11 billion microplastics into hot water. Even paper bags use polypropylene to seal the bag. Becoming aware of how much waste we can reduce over time by purchasing loose leaf tea is a wonderful way to enjoy our favorite Autumn blends and better the health of our planet. And I find having a favorite, cozy mug and beautiful teapot encourages me to use it and enjoy a few cups of tea daily, which adds so much to my day. I know this is not possible for everyone, but I find that when I enjoy a cup of chamomile in the evening, as I watch my littles outside swinging is the most reflective and relaxing part of my day. The cooler Autumn air is so freshing and enjoyed as regularly as possible.
Homemade pumpkin spice
Instead of buying a plastic container of pumpkin spice, grab some whole spices in bulk (ideally from a spice shop where you can use your own reusable bags and storage containers) and make your own blend! It’s done in five minutes, doesn’t contribute to our earth’s trash problem, and just makes you feel so good that you made your own. I store mine in a glass spice jar, but love to add a few to these recycled jars to gift to friends.
Homemade spiced oat milk
Store-bought oat milk often comes in packaging that is not biodegradable and has a plastic top. It often also contains fillers and cheap oils that we always avoid – like sunflower oil, which is added to “improve the taste” and stabilize the thickness of the drink. Not only does this give it a ton of extra calories, but it is also unhealthy fat. Sunflower oil is high in omega-6s and low in omega-3s (which are the fat you actually want to supplement in your diet). Omega-6 fats are bad for your heart and overall health. So making your own oat milk is the best way to go. Because there are no fillers in this recipe, it is best used within one week. This recipe is so cozy and will give you all the positive feels as you add it to your oat milk latte
These little additions are adding so much joy and eliminating toxins and plastic are making this season feel even more cozy.
