Homemade marshmallows. Ever wonder how a medicinal

Homemade marshmallows. Ever wonder how a medicinal plant became well... what is? Lol.

"Nineteenth century doctors extracted juice from the marsh mallow plant's roots and cooked it with egg whites and sugar, then whipped the mixture into a foamy meringue that later hardened, creating a medicinal candy used to soothe children's sore throats. Eventually, advanced manufacturing processes and improved texturing agents eliminated the need for the gooey root juice altogether. Unfortunately, that eliminated the confection's healing properties as a cough suppressant, immune system booster and wound healer." From thought.co. I found this fascinating!

Marshmallow is one of my favorite plants to use in miscellaneous formulations for myself. I’m a learning herbalist, so I am always applying what I learn and tasting and trying plants for myself. For my own personal constitution, I use the leaves and roots interchangeably and enjoy them in my tea. The roots are more abundant in polysaccharides than the leaves, but they are both moistening and keep this pisces girl in check.

As I learn about herbs and their properties, I have a whole new grasp on the importance of understanding your own body vs using an allopathic approach and using the same herbs/medicines for their properties on everyone. I am learning a lot and have difficulty speaking on it yet, but am thankful I took the leap to further my understanding. I say this all the time, I have a background in healthcare and more recently in the field of research, and I am not anti modern medicine. I’m pro remembering ancient wisdom and rediscovering the consciousness of plants the way our ancestors did. The spirituality in treating ourselves and the healing process has been removed and I like to dive deep into that.

These marshmallows are in no way actual medicine, but the act of learning about the plant, reading on this treats history, and creating food from scratch is medicine to me.

Acceptance. This word has been coming to my mind a

Acceptance. This word has been coming to my mind all day.

There’s so much I’m trying to accomplish. I have taken on an abundance because I’m in an unexpected position in my life, where I actually have paid help with my children and home. And even still, I spend all day doing what’s necessary for our family. Now... I love doing so. Absolutely adore it. No complaints about the playing and reading cooking and cleaning and even shopping because I really love to get lost in these activities. It feels so good to check them off my mental list. It’s doable most days and just peachy.

It’s the success obsessed woman with the creative brain that makes me feel anxious. I realized today I’ve silently put this pressure on myself to “become successful” in x amount of time. It’s been challenging to enjoy my life and the moment to the fullest, as it’s always in the back of my head. I don’t go to a job and enjoy the time I have off like I used to. So all day I’ve been “accepting” that I’ll take moment by moment, do the next most important thing to be done. And enjoy my day and children. Work will wait. This is a season.

I’m creating a job from scratch and my art creeps into every moment of my day. I feel sorry for my husband who always sits and watches tv or reads alone at night, because it’s the first time all day I’ve had a moment to sit and do something for “me”. And by that I mean open up my laptop and work.

I’m sharing this because people in this world don’t talk about it. We fear being seen as unprofessional and won’t be hired if we’re actual moms and humans. We can’t escape it even in the freelance world.

I want to apologize to myself, for piling on unnecessary stress. It feels so freeing to write it out. Share with you. I want to say thank you to my husband, who lets me chase dreams and supports them. I’m lucky beyond words, which honestly adds even more pressure. 😘 and I want to say thank you for being here and if you’re a woman experiencing the weight of it all, I’m with you. Let’s continue to normalize talking about it. You’re not alone.

Is anyone else knee deep in the realization it’s going to take more than a new year to make the changes they want in their daily lives?

Here’s what I want to say. You’re perfect now. I know you feel overwhelmed. I know you feel you need to make changes to achieve more. I know there’s constant nagging to get it all done and be more efficient about it. I know because these are the thoughts I’m managing. And rebelling against.

I know it’s an illusion. Right now is a gift. So be rich in whimsy with millionaires shortbread (which isn’t complete without edible pearls, gold + roses) with me. Celebrate where you are. And eat chocolate after all of your salads.

Everyone goes into the new year with that much nee

Everyone goes into the new year with that much needed approval to start fresh. I feel it. I love it. I’m embracing it. There are definitely milestones I want to hit this year. But all I really want is - to work less. To not let my phone rob precious moments with my family. To only create what I’m feeling really intentional and passionate about. To go slow. Take the long path. Stop feeling the pressure of needing to put something into the world immediately, or else I won’t reach my goals. To stop feeling like I’m not good enough for what I desire.

More walks in the neighborhood. More getting into the car and going for a drive for no reason. More going to lunch by myself because I deserve to eat lunch instead of working through it. More reaching for my lime oil when I’m anxious (it’s my happy oil for sure) More being okay with feeling a mediocre housewife sometimes so I can be a really great blogger. More embracing this beautiful, unique life I’m experiencing. More drawing. More writing. More reading. More being.

And definitely more rose water.

Mushrooms are amazing 🍄

I’m about to drift off after putting finishing putting together plans for a future Girl Scout session all about the immune system. The badge is actually “staying fit” but I’ll call it “staying well”.

In the second part will sew our own face masks but first, we will talk all things immune system. Did you know mushrooms have their own immune system? Not surprisingly, our own immune system is activated by polysaccharides, terpenes, and other compounds found in mushroom mycelium.

I saw a lot of shrooms, rosemary and even a lettuce growing in the park today - not to mention oranges, olives and more (tunisia is magic), so we will find some plants while we go for a walk. We won’t eat them or pick them, just walk and enjoy some time outside looking for them - while we brainstorm ideas to stay well. Discuss how it all ties into the immune system. Then we will have some snack options. The girls will have to look at processed labels and ingredients and compare the contents to real Whole Foods. The girlscare always obsessed with finding real, whole, edible foods in the park and garden. I enjoy the opportunity to teach them in creative ways.

Also, mushrooms are special in that they regulate the immune system to support a balanced immune response. Do your kids like mushrooms? Mine love them. I’m planning on drinking my mushroom coffee everyday.

🥀 rose + rosé cocktail to bring in 2021, abundantly. I used a homemade rose syrup and rosé, chilled with some floral ice cubes, garnished with rose bush leaves, and a rose sugar rim. I shared how to make the syrup in my story. This will definitely be my valentines cocktail as well! Happy new year sweet friends. We’re off to do some wishful rituals.🪄
