The Best Flowers For Tea & Where to Source Them

Sep 22, 2022 This post may contain affiliate links.

The delicate and complex fragrance of floral teas are a magical and medicinal way to enjoy the beauty of flowers. The various blends of like rose, jasmine, lavender or chamomile are soothing have been used for their benefits for centuries. These are the brands I use at home with my family!

I am sharing the best dried flowers you can buy on amazon for beautiful tea blending. Download my chart on the meaning of edible flowers to craft with intention.

    Best practices for buying tea:

I always buy our tea loose and in bulk. When available, we buy organic. This prevents waste. We use tea strainers or reusable mesh bags to steep our tea.

    How to source edible flowers:

Sourcing edible flowers doesn't have to stress you out! As a floral baker and self proclaimed flowervore, I want to share how to get safe edible flowers for all of your needs.

Unfortunately I'm creating this post out of necessity. I've been seeing a lot of cakes on social media using the pressed flowers for crafting off of amazon that are 1) not a variety of flower you should eat 2) not grown for human consumption.

You don't want to accidentally get your guests sick by serving them up something that was never meant to be eaten.

    Benefit of floral teas:

    • Flower tea is caffeine free so you can enjoy it anytime
    • Flowers are full of health benefits
    • Floral teas are a beautiful way to enhance the flavors of baked goods and treats, like Blooming Milk Chocolate Lavender Truffles or Lemon Chamomile Bars
    • Many dried florals make a stunning garish and can be used in a number of DIY projects, view Easy and Creative DIY Edible Herbal and Floral Gifts for inspiration.

    The flowers:

All edible flowers can be used to make floral tea, but these ones are delicious and popular in tea blends for a reason.

    Butterfly pea flower tea

    • The butterfly pea (clitoria ternatea) is a plant with interesting flowers that are native to Asia. The vivid blue color of its petals makes for an aesthetically pleasing sight, and easy to identify because these flowers usually have very distinctive traits! You may recognize them for their vibrant blue hue. Mix lemon with butterfly pea flowers to get a dreamy purple drink. Butterfly pea flower tea is rich in vitamins and is 100% natural . These flowers are sustainably harvested from organic farms and dried at low temperature, keeping the original flavor. Butterfly pea flower is the main ingredient in butterfly pea flower syrup

    Rose flower tea

Nearly every part of a rose plant is edible, and you can find some great rose products on amazon. The flavor of rose is reminiscent of strawberries and tart green apples. Here are different rose varieties you can find on amazon.

Rose buds: Organic rose buds from Starwest Botanicals are safe for consumption and are just as beautiful as they look! You can use these rose buds as tea, like we do in our rose milk tea latteor as a beautiful garnish on anything.

Rose hips: FGO offers organic rose hips , Starwest botanicals also has their own, but FGO was selected as the winner for their more sustainable packaging.

Rose water: There is plenty of organic rose water on amazon, but it comes with a different price tag depending on whether or not it's marketed for beauty and health or for consumption. I use Corta's rose water when I don't make my own at home.
