A stunning floral and tart grapefruit jasmine flower greyhound cocktail, an elegant spin on our favorite classic cocktail with grapefruit juice.

The classic greyhound cocktail is a refreshingly tart drink that can be made quickly. The simplicity of this popular mixed drink is what makes it so well loved, and it requires nothing more than vodka or gin and grapefruit juice. This simple drink offers an excellent base for experimentation: so we put our spin on it and added Jasmin simple syrup for the gorgeous floral essence and natural honey notes.

Harry Craddock is responsible for one of the most famous recipes in cocktail history. His simple variation on a classic grapefruit drink dates back to 1930 and pairs well with both vodka or gin, depending upon your preference! In 1945, the class greyhound with vodka drink appeared in Harper's Magazine, and by the '50s, it became a popular bar menu item found at at restaurants found at Greyhound bus terminals, hence the name.

The jasmine greyhound is a perfect fit for any occasion, from brunch to happy hour and cocktail parties.

Ingredients

  • Jasmine simple syrup:
  • ½ cup Fresh organic jasmine flowers or ¼ cup dried organic jasmine flowers
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • Cocktail:
  • 2 ounces vodka or gin
  • 4 ounces grapefruit juice
  • 2 ounces Jasmine simple syrup
  • Grapefruit wedge for garnish

Instructions

To make jasmine syrup:

  • In a small saucepan over medium/high heat, heat the water, sugar, and flowers until it comes to a simmer. 
    Stir to dissolve the sugar and continue simmering gently for 5 minutes, reduce heat and let simmer on low for an additional 5 minutes.
    Remove from heat and let the liquid cool. 
    Lastly, strain the liquid from the flowers into a jar with a fine mesh sieve and store in a container with an airtight lid.

2. To make cocktail:

  • Squeeze your grapefruit into your cocktail shaker
    Add in your jasmine syrup
    Add in your vodka or gin
    Shake well
    Pour over a glass with ice
    Garnish with grapefruit wedge or jasmine flower
