The Magic of Ganache

If you’ve never made homemade ganache before, you’re in for a treat. It sounds fancy, but it’s incredibly simple: just chocolate and cream, melted together into a velvety smooth, decadent delight. It adds a touch of richness and sophistication that elevates the humble brownie to a gourmet dessert. Plus, it provides the perfect “glue” for our edible flowers.

Our Edible Flowers: Nature’s Candy

Ready to transform a simple boxed brownie into a work of art? We carefully cultivate a variety of blooms that are as delicious as they are beautiful. Our flowers add a unique flavor dimension and a pop of color that will make your Blooming Brownies truly unforgettable.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of your favorite brownie mix (plus ingredients called for on the box)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (or dark chocolate, if you prefer)
  • A selection of our Frolic and Fare organic edible flowers
  • Optional: A pinch of sea salt

Equipment:

  • 8×8 inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • small saucepan
  • Heat-safe bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Cooling rack

Instructions:

  1. Bake the Brownies: Prepare the brownie mix according to the package directions. I always replace the oil for butter on my boxed brownies. Line your 8×8 inch pan with parchment paper for easy removal. Once baked, let the brownies cool completely on a cooling rack.
  2. Make the Ganache: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy whipping cream over medium heat. Watch it closely and bring it just to a simmer (tiny bubbles around the edges). Don’t let it boil. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate in the bowl. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the ganache is smooth and glossy.
  3. Assemble the Blooming Brownies:
    • While it’s still warm, pour the ganache evenly over the top of the brownies.
    • Now comes the fun part: Decorate your brownies with our edible flowers! Get creative with your designs – there’s no wrong way to do it!
    • If desired, cut the brownies into squares before serving.
  4. Serve and Enjoy: These Blooming Brownies are best enjoyed fresh, but they can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Let them come to room temperature before serving for the best flavor and texture.

Tips for Success:

  • Don’t Overbake: Overbaked brownies will be dry and crumbly. For fudgy brownies, slightly underbake them. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with moist crumbs.
  • Use Good Quality Chocolate: The flavor of your ganache will only be as good as the chocolate you use. Opt for a high-quality semi-sweet or dark chocolate for the best results.
